Logitech’s Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 is an update to the very popular Pure-Fi range. This compact system uses four speakers to create high quality sound from a small package. It includes a built in rechargeable battery – saving you money on batteries, and providing 10 hours of playback time. An AC adapter is included as well for listening at home and recharging the battery. Additional features include a convenient remote control, and the ability to recharge your iPod or iPhone so it does not run out of power. This unit features a pair of 2.75″ drivers, which are almost universally applauded for their ability to output higher quality sound than you would expect from a small system.

Satechi has designed the SP1-Curve to function as an alarm clock for the iPod Touch, featuring a blue LED backlight with dimmer, and the ability to wake to sound from an iPod or radio. There is also an included, compact remote control, which can control both the system and your iPod or iPhone.

Although the Audioengine 2 speakers are small, and include only 15 watts per channel, they put out stellar sound. For a smaller room, they produce plenty of sound and strong, crisp bass. The Pure-Fi, although small, is an iPod speaker system with excellent sound. There are 4 speakers arrayed across the front of the unit, encompassing 2 two inch tweeters and 2 three inch mid/low range speakers. Logitech advertises the speakers as utilizing “Stereo XL” technology – which is a digital method for making the soundstage seem larger. It can’t compete with speakers on opposite corners of the room, but does an excellent job of helping a tiny speaker system sound large.

As a system made especially for the iPod line, it’s not surprising the Logitech Anywhere 2 includes a built-in dock for your iPod Touch. This is a full fledged dock, allowing you to charge and control your iPod through the portable speaker system (you can even control your iPod with the Pure-Fi’s remote control). Of course, you can always hook up a different audio device through the 3.5 mm input jack.

Making the Pure-Fi 2 a really compelling product is the way it combined all its features with a focus on portability. The system is compact, and includes an attractive, protective travel case. For music on the go, Logitech included a built-in lithium ion battery, providing up to 10 hours of battery powered sound. Although the Pure-Fi runs a somewhat steep ~$115, you have to keep in mind the amount of money you might be saving on batteries.

As an alarm clock made to work with the iPod, the SP2-Box fulfills a definite need (although there are other iPod alarm clocks). Your iPod plugs into the unit’s top and charges via the dock. An easy to set alarm clock can be programmed so you wake up to music from your iPod. It’s also possible to wake up to an alarm or the radio.

Some of the other features of the Satechi Box include an LCD backlit screen, 2″ speakers, and a remote control that is capable of controlling both the clock radio and your iPod Touch. The system features good sound for a small clock radio, and is also compatible with other audio devices via a 3.5mm input jack.

Although fully compatible with iPod Nanos, iPod Touches, and the iPod Classic, the Satechi runs into some hiccups when working with an iPhone or iPhone 3G. The SP2-Box will function and play music from your device, but the iPhone gives an error message. Additionally, if it drops into Edge mode, the Box will experience interference (it is not fully shielded from cell phone signals). This can be avoided by putting your iPhone into airplane mode.

The T612 includes most of the convenience features you might find in an iPod system. It is a fully fledged dock, able to charge your iPod or iPhone as you’re listening to music. The system also includes a 3.5mm headphone in jack for listening to other devices, and a small remote control.

If you are using Altec Lansing’s T612 for an iPhone, it has one more convenient feature – the system is shielded so you don’t need to worry about interference from cell phone signals! You don’t have to put your phone in airplane mode. It can stay on, receive calls, and the system automatically reduces the volume so you can talk.
