The Pure-Fi, although small, is an iPod speaker system with excellent sound. There are 4 speakers arrayed across the front of the unit, encompassing 2 two inch tweeters and 2 three inch mid/low range speakers. Logitech advertises the speakers as utilizing “Stereo XL” technology – which is a digital method for making the soundstage seem larger. It can’t compete with speakers on opposite corners of the room, but does an excellent job of helping a tiny speaker system sound large.

As a system made especially for the iPod line, it’s not surprising the Logitech Anywhere 2 includes a built-in dock for your iPod Touch. This is a full fledged dock, allowing you to charge and control your iPod through the portable speaker system (you can even control your iPod with the Pure-Fi’s remote control). Of course, you can always hook up a different audio device through the 3.5 mm input jack.

Making the Pure-Fi 2 a really compelling product is the way it combined all its features with a focus on portability. The system is compact, and includes an attractive, protective travel case. For music on the go, Logitech included a built-in lithium ion battery, providing up to 10 hours of battery powered sound. Although the Pure-Fi runs a somewhat steep ~$115, you have to keep in mind the amount of money you might be saving on batteries.

These speakers feature Altec Lansing’s great sound, and can be used as speakers for iPod’s of almost any type. By plugging the iPod into the speaker dock, the speakers will also recharge your MP3 player. Additionally, the Altec Lansing speakers feature a second jack for plugging in a non-iPod audio device.

This inMotion speaker has a number of other useful features. It includes a small remote, which can control both the speaker set and your iPod. Altec Lansing’s iM600 also includes a unique feature to bolster the sound quality. It includes ESS (Expanded Sound Stage) technology, to help make the speakers seem farther apart than they really are, helping reduce one of the downsides of small speaker packages.

The inMotion iM600 is a great device for anyone looking at a portable iPod speaker system, particularly if you are interested in an internal, rechargeable battery.

There are several unique features which draw people to the On Stage Micro. First off, it is a true iPod dock that also functions as a speaker system. Your iPod plugs into the top of the dock, and can be charged through this connection. Additionally, there is a USB pass-through, allowing the iPod to be connected to your computer while still attached to the speakers.

Secondly, JBL’s On Stage Micro is an excellent travel companion, able to be powered by 4 AAA batteries. These four batteries can power the dock for up to 24 hours! When they are running low, the dock flashes its amber warning light before shutting off.

The On Stage Micro also includes a miniature IR remote, which can be used to control all the functions of both the JBL speaker system and of your Apple iPod.

Depending on what you are looking for, this may be the perfect speaker for you. The Satechi Round Speaker is not for the high-end audiophile. However, it provides iPod Touch music with a simple interface, and is able to be powered by batteries.

The option to plug into a wall or use battery power makes the Satechi very versatile, useful outdoors or indoors, at home or away. Although not a high-end audio device, the Round Speaker does provide pleasant music and is able to produce enough volume for a smaller room.

There is a remote control included with Satechi’s speaker, and it includes a 3.5 mm stereo jack in addition to the iPod interface. This allows you to plugin any source that can output to a set of headphones.

Satechi is not a particularly well-known name, however, there are relatively few quality complaints online.

Based on its variety of features and reasonable sound, we recommend the Satechi Round Speaker for anyone looking at a battery powered iPod Touch system.
