This unit features a pair of 2.75″ drivers, which are almost universally applauded for their ability to output higher quality sound than you would expect from a small system.

Satechi has designed the SP1-Curve to function as an alarm clock for the iPod Touch, featuring a blue LED backlight with dimmer, and the ability to wake to sound from an iPod or radio. There is also an included, compact remote control, which can control both the system and your iPod or iPhone.

The biggest downside to the SP-1 is a lack of comprehensive shielding from cell-phone signals. If your iPhone is not able to stay in 3G mode, then it will need to be placed into airplane mode (not allowing you to receive calls) to avoid interference.

As an alarm clock made to work with the iPod, the SP2-Box fulfills a definite need (although there are other iPod alarm clocks). Your iPod plugs into the unit’s top and charges via the dock. An easy to set alarm clock can be programmed so you wake up to music from your iPod. It’s also possible to wake up to an alarm or the radio.

Some of the other features of the Satechi Box include an LCD backlit screen, 2″ speakers, and a remote control that is capable of controlling both the clock radio and your iPod Touch. The system features good sound for a small clock radio, and is also compatible with other audio devices via a 3.5mm input jack.

Although fully compatible with iPod Nanos, iPod Touches, and the iPod Classic, the Satechi runs into some hiccups when working with an iPhone or iPhone 3G. The SP2-Box will function and play music from your device, but the iPhone gives an error message. Additionally, if it drops into Edge mode, the Box will experience interference (it is not fully shielded from cell phone signals). This can be avoided by putting your iPhone into airplane mode.

Depending on what you are looking for, this may be the perfect speaker for you. The Satechi Round Speaker is not for the high-end audiophile. However, it provides iPod Touch music with a simple interface, and is able to be powered by batteries.

The option to plug into a wall or use battery power makes the Satechi very versatile, useful outdoors or indoors, at home or away. Although not a high-end audio device, the Round Speaker does provide pleasant music and is able to produce enough volume for a smaller room.

There is a remote control included with Satechi’s speaker, and it includes a 3.5 mm stereo jack in addition to the iPod interface. This allows you to plugin any source that can output to a set of headphones.

Satechi is not a particularly well-known name, however, there are relatively few quality complaints online.

Based on its variety of features and reasonable sound, we recommend the Satechi Round Speaker for anyone looking at a battery powered iPod Touch system.
